06:21 pm - Positive
from one of my old journals )

I feel different -- and it's not a 'bad' kind of different.

Maybe it's because I'm actually getting things done. I'm worrying less. It's like I'm getting more sleep (well, not really, but I feel like I am). And, I bought a new sketchboook! (I have started listening to Radiohead, too!)

Hope this continues.

Curious as can be, she plunged into the world of sweet uncertainties. She tiptoed across an exploded Milky Way, plucking stars from where they used to be. She examined them and proceeded to dissect --what makes them burn and what makes them shine? Could it be the bittersweet position, faraway juxtaposition from the earth? You know, reaching out so much, with so much intensity, only to end up with a cold shoulder shoved in your face. Could it be running through the sky leaving threads of somethings fading into somethings into the morning? You know, the complete passiveness exhibited by little men and women walking on the streets just looking out for a shooting star, not you. Could it have been the fullness of passion they radiate in themselves, and the complete lack of echo? Mmm, could be.

Stumbling upon martian space rocks, something: What is it that makes them die out? Could it be everything and anything that makes them burn and shine? (There's just too much, she notices. And off the stars go into being nothing.) Rage, passion, love, the light they wanted to burst out into the dark -- maybe it was all too much. Once let out and echoed, they could not take any more of those. And so they disappear.

She once plunged into a world of sweet uncertainties. Now, she comes out ruined, with stars detached from the night sky, out of a world that was now full of bittersweet certainties.

I clutched the whisper of your name in my hand. I walked north and tried to contain all that I've been harboring inside the measly space I have left in me. (This is probably the most bittersweet kind of pain that has befallen me.) Knee-high in wasted time and times wasted, I squint, hoping that the next time I open my eyes fully I see something different. Something immaterial, something not you. And then I see the end. I open my hand, scream, and see my palm empty.

05:13 pm - Writer's Block: I Love Lucy

I Love Lucy premiered today in 1951, and has been on the air ever since. Although Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz’s marriage didn’t last off the air, Lucy and Ricky are one of the great couples in television history. Who is your favorite TV couple?

03:55 pm - Calculator
Lately, I've been drawing a lot...

(It's been a long time since I last made a post.)

During my first year of high school, I had this green Cattleya notebook which I filled with spur-of-the-moment poetry, lazy drawings and vague diary entries. While reading my old blog entries (on a different blog), I found a poem which I remember writing in that notebook.

The story behind this poem (which I found extremely poor but amusing nevertheless): My classmate and I, during one of our usual stays in the library, decided to write poems based on one word that the other would give. I think I gave her the word "canvas" (or something else, haha). In turn, she gave me the word "calculator".

An endless night
of disturbing figures
beads of evident stress
flow down to the sheet
of mental breakdowns

the eighth struck
it's time to go
the opposites are racing
the feet retreat
but they're facing

the hands revolve
there's just too much
bring it out
there are no spectators
it just needs skill

the clicking and the clacking
no one has heard
a slip of the hand
it's the end of the world

That was the poem I made. Yes, I know -- it... sucks. But casting that aside, I've decided that this poem is amusing. At first, the calculator won't seem to be anywhere in the poem. It's there, though. The lines throw off a vague feeling but I'm sure the specific situation being narrated in the poem (involving a calculator, of course) can be figured out. ;)

01:43 pm - another call
I got a really weird call -- weirder (but less annoying) than all those "Pwede po kay [person I didn't even know existed]?" calls.

I put down my guitar, jumped onto the couch, picked up the phone, and...

I get one of those annoying automated messages that I sometimes get when the phone company has this Mother's Day or whatever day promo. But it wasn't from a phone company.

In a very "Hi!-I'm-a-robot-sounding-automated-message-recording-of-a-man's-voice" (that was long, haha) way, the voice said: "Mabuhay! Welcome to Richmond Hotel! Please wait while we direct your call blahblahblah" -- blahblahblah being whatever he must have said after I hung up (after saying "What the hell?", that is). I mean, I am not currently staying in a hotel and I didn't call them. WTF, hahahaha.

01:52 am - Stop me.
I can't stop buying notebooks.

When in a bookstore, I wander around, (maybe) subconsciously looking for the notebook section. Most of my notebook purchases are on impulse, with the exception of school notebooks the only exception I can think of at this time. Some of these impulse buys turn out to be notebooks that I do use, like the 99-peso "Personal. Memo." notebook I bought during a quick trip (wherein I felt the salespeople's eyes staring holes into me) to Office Warehouse. At first, it was just another pretty notebook that caught my eye but it soon became my "for my eyes only" journal. Ever since that day, I've been religiously (and dedicatedly) writing in it. But, of course, not all of my notebooks are put to good use. Most of them have become victims to my awful habit of ripping out pages often. I've never ripped all the pages off a notebook, but I've come near to that. Some just end up unused, collecting dust in a section in one of my cabinets in my room. Yes, I have a cabinet section (I don't know how to exactly call it)--plus a box--full of notebooks, used, unused, discontinued.

Today I just bought a Cattleya Note notebook. I mean, I had to take advantage of the situation! I was withholding my money for the Divisoria trip I was to go on next week when this notebook caught my eye. Maybe I wouldn't say it exactly caught my eye. I just saw it there. And I had this strange urge to buy it. The little men in my brain have been split into two camps--Team "Don't buy it!" and Team "YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO (insert smug eyebrow raise prodding)". As aforementioned, the latter won. I couldn't resist the smug eyebrow raise prodding! Although I didn't really buy it (my mom did), I'm calling it Ellie's notebook impulse buy no. 209859819581205182.

The most intimidating part to a new notebook came to me just minutes ago. I was struck by an idea ("Hey, why don't I list the names of the members of this band?"). I didn't want to write it in my journal, for some reason, so off I go to the table. I grab the notebook and go over to my desk. It's always hard for me to write for the very first time in a new notebook. Heck, even in an old notebook that I left unused for a while. My random idea (I just realized it now) didn't end up on paper--my name did, on the front page. I have decided to separate myself from it until school comes. ...although this separation might be a problem, since the notebook will be just a cabinet-opening away...

Ooh, another tidbit on me and notebooks: I have this sort of OCD thing with them. Most of the time, I want notebooks to just have a SOLE purpose. Like, this notebook is just for my doodles. And this notebook is for my innermost thoughts, rants, raves, blahblahblah. This one's for lists. Just lists. I get all irked up when I mess up this 'thing'. Although this 'thing' that I have with notebooks don't always get followed in the long run, it always pops up when it comes to notebooks. I don't think anyone would really get me on this, but whatever.

Hmm. I must really like notebooks (if not like, just strangely attached/attracted to them). I mean, I dedicated a (maybe silly) post to them. And a long one at that.

05:23 pm - to love and be loved in return
Step aside, Ghost World.

I have a new favorite movie. Well, one that ranks first among my favorites. Hello, Moulin Rouge! (2001)

With all the musical clashing, artsy visuals, and sweeps of emotion all throughout the movie, this romantically dramatic musical is all-around candy for the senses.

And, I mean, come on, with old men singing Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" while complete sound ecstasy takes over you, this movie's guaranteed to please you. Besides, there's sort of man on man action when two men do a funny chase sequence while singing "Like a Virgin".

I watched Sweeney Todd last night.

source: http://www.ohjohnny.net/sweeney/sweeneycaps/sweeneycaps1.html

One word: gory.

I wouldn't place it up there with my favorite movies, but I really liked the songs, especially "Pirelli's Magical Elixir", "Johanna" and "Pretty Women". I also liked Johnny Depp's and Helena Bonham Carter's performances. Oh and I found Mrs. Lovett's daydream scenes really cute (especially the one at the beach).

---
I finally have gotten hold of House, M.D. season three. *squee* I haven't finished season one yet but I think I only have 3 or 2 episodes to go.

Stuff (that I have DVDs of) to finish watching:
> House, M.D.
> Criminal Minds (Matthew Gray Gubler, my love!)
> Detective Conan
> The Office (though it really sucks that I only have season 4)
> That '70's Show

Oh and I have lots of movies to watch too. Yay bum living.

Ew man. I mean, come on. "I was looking at him, sort of going, oh, he's not too bad," she said. "Like you might look at a man across the bar at a nightclub." COME ON!

This is so nerdy it's brilliant.

01:12 am - only love can ease the pain

I don't despise Maladroit.
Someday, I'm going to own a shirt or hoodie with this printed on it. It would definitely own.

In other news, my parents and I watched The Air I Breathe today (well, technically, it would be yesterday, but what the heck). Basic plot (thank you to my movie make out buddy IMDB.com): A drama based on an ancient Chinese proverb that breaks life down into four emotional cornerstones: happiness, pleasure, sorrow and love. A businessman (Whitaker) bets his life on a horse race; a gangster (Fraser) sees the future; a pop star (Gellar) falls prey to a crime boss (Garcia); a doctor (Bacon) must save the love of his life.

I was quite nervous at first, when I saw (heard, actually) the dialogue that took place in the bathroom, which butterfly-lovin' Whitaker overheard. Holy freaking crap. It's like the f word decided to rain on us. I kept on whispering to my mom if she wants to leave, but she said she likes it so far. I asked because I was the one who chose the film. My dad slept.

Verdict ('cause I'm not really a long review type person): Excellent. I found it interesting and pretty moving. Reminded me of Crash, though. (Not that that's a bad thing.)
